Team Malta were once again in action across rowing, sailing and athletics, with Maltese athletes continuing their challenge in the Mediterranean Games.

The day began on the water with Mark Schembri competing in the Men’s Single Sculls Heat 1. Schembri completed his race in a time of 8:33.29, gaining valuable experience against a strong international field.

In sailing, another two races were completed in both the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 classes. In the ILCA 6 fleet, Katrina Micallef currently occupies 12th place overall, while Mia Busuttil is in 16th position. Meanwhile, in the ILCA 7 category, Matthew Flores sits in 15th place and Benjamin Vassallo is 17th.

The sailors faced difficult conditions throughout the day, with shifty and unstable winds creating a highly tactical and demanding environment. Despite the challenges, Malta’s sailors remain in contention with three races still to be contested.

On the athletics track, Matthew Galea Soler produced another encouraging performance in Heat 2 of the men’s 400 metres. After a strong opening 200 metres, Galea Soler crossed the finish line in 47.18 seconds, his second-fastest time of the season.

Attention now turns to Tuesday, when Team Malta will have another busy schedule. Sailing competition continues with two more races, while Tenishia Thornton will compete in the women’s 69kg weightlifting category.

In karate, Thyis Antonelli will take to the tatami at 15:21 in the Women’s -61kg Kumite Round of 16, where she will face Wafa Mahjoub of Tunisia.

Malta will also be represented on the athletics track by Claire Azzopardi and Graham Pellegrini, who are set to compete in the women’s and men’s 200-metre heats respectively as Team Malta’s Mediterranean Games campaign continues.
