Bodo/Glimt Beat Viking in Thrilling Clash as Both Managers See Red in Norway’s Top-Two Showdown

Bodo/Glimt claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory over Viking in a heated Eliteserien encounter on Friday, with both managers sent off in a match filled with controversy and excitement. Viking defender Henrik Falchener endured a difficult first half, as two unfortunate deflections resulted in goals for the hosts.
With Viking leading the league standings and both clubs competing in this season’s Champions League league phase, the meeting between the Norwegian sides carried significant importance and lived up to its growing rivalry.
Bodo/Glimt made an impressive start, taking the lead in the fourth minute when Falchener inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. Andreas Helmersen doubled the hosts’ advantage 15 minutes later, putting Viking under considerable pressure.
However, the defending champions responded strongly, with Kristoffer Haugen and Erik Botheim finding the net to bring Viking level and restore excitement to the contest.
The home supporters at Aspmyra Stadium were celebrating again just before half-time when Jens Petter Hauge’s attempt took a deflection off Falchener and flew past the goalkeeper in the 43rd minute. Although it initially appeared to be another own goal from the Viking defender, Hauge was officially credited with the strike, restoring Bodo/Glimt’s advantage.
Tempers flared on the touchline during first-half stoppage time following a heavy challenge on Jens Petter Hauge by Viking midfielder Kristoffer Askildsen. The incident sparked an angry confrontation between the two coaching staffs, resulting in red cards for Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen and his Viking counterpart Morten Jensen. During the heated exchange, Knutsen was seen pulling down the peak of Jensen’s cap.
Bodo/Glimt captain Patrick Berg later described the incident as somewhat amusing, admitting that both teams had discussed the importance of maintaining their composure before the match.
“It was a bit comical. We talked about it before the game, that we and the coaching team had to keep our heads cool,” Berg told broadcaster TV2.
“At least we managed it out on the field – I haven’t seen the situation, but it’s clear that Kjetil didn’t manage it as well as we did.”
The intensity continued after the interval, with both sides producing plenty of aggressive challenges and physical battles. However, neither team managed to find the net again as Bodo/Glimt held on to secure all three points.
The victory moved Bodo/Glimt level with Viking on points and goal difference at the top of the Eliteserien standings. Nevertheless, Viking retained first place thanks to their 3-0 victory over Bodo/Glimt in Stavanger earlier in the season.
