Trabzonspor have completed the signing of Turkish international winger Aral Simsir from FC Midtjylland in a landmark transfer that sets a new club record.

The Super Lig side will pay a guaranteed €13 million for the 23-year-old, with the fee to be settled in seven instalments. Performance-related bonuses could increase the overall value of the deal to €15 million, making it the most expensive signing in Trabzonspor’s history.

The previous club-record acquisition was attacking midfielder Ernest Muçi, whose permanent move from Beşiktaş cost a total of €9.5 million, including an €8.5 million transfer fee and a €1 million loan payment.

Simsir has put pen to paper on a four-year contract, with an option to extend for a further season, tying him to Trabzonspor until June 2030. The move brings an end to his decade-long association with FC Midtjylland, where he progressed through the club’s ranks before establishing himself in the first team.

Reflecting on his departure, Simsir said he had always hoped to follow the path of many former FC Midtjylland players who earned moves abroad.

“Over the years, I have seen how many good players from FC Midtjylland have been sold to clubs abroad. I have always had the same dream: to go out and further explore my talent in a different setting and environment. Thank God, I have been blessed with talent, and I want to show the whole world the extent of my potential.”

Simsir departs FC Midtjylland after an impressive ten-year spell with the club, during which he helped lift four trophies. He made 145 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 40 assists, while also being recognised as the 3F Superliga Player of the Year by multiple independent media outlets.

The winger reached another milestone earlier this summer when he earned his first senior international cap for Turkey, making his debut for the national team in June.
