Teddy Teuma has made his ambitions clear following his unveiling as Sliema Wanderers’ latest signing, insisting that he has returned to Malta with one clear objective — to help the club challenge for silverware.

The Malta international midfielder was officially presented by the Wanderers on Tuesday, becoming the club’s most high-profile acquisition of the summer transfer window.

His arrival represents a significant statement of intent from Sliema Wanderers, who are determined to put behind them a disappointing 2025/26 campaign in which they failed to secure any major honours or qualify for European competition.

Under the new presidency of Walter Arciola, the Wanderers have already strengthened their squad with the signings of national team goalkeeper Henry Bonello, formerly of Ħamrun Spartans, and forward Alex Satariano.

For Teuma, the move marks the first time he will compete in the Maltese Premier League, and the 32-year-old admitted he is relishing the prospect of beginning this new chapter in his career.

“I’m delighted to join Sliema Wanderers and be part of this project,” Teuma said.

“My aim is to give everything I have to help the club achieve its objectives. Returning to Malta was a decision I made with great conviction, and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to Maltese football.”

Teuma also revealed that his close friendship with Bonello played a role in his decision to join the Wanderers.

“Henry and I have a very strong friendship. He supported me a lot when I first joined the national team, and we have always remained close,” Teuma explained.

“I had promised him that one day we would play together in Malta, and now I am happy to have fulfilled that promise. I am looking forward to sharing the pitch with him once again.”

Sliema Wanderers president Walter Arciola described Teuma’s signing as a major step in the club’s rebuilding process, emphasising the committee’s determination to attract the best Maltese talent available.

“One of our first priorities as a new committee was to strengthen the squad with top Maltese players,” Arciola said.

“Teddy Teuma has joined Sliema Wanderers on a three-year contract, and his arrival, together with those of Alex Satariano and Henry Bonello, sends a strong message about our ambitions.

“We want this new era at Sliema Wanderers to place the club in a stronger position than in previous years and enable us to compete for all major domestic honours.”

During the media conference, the Wanderers also announced a new Memorandum of Understanding with Betsson, which will become the club’s main sponsor.

Ronnie Hartvig, representing Betsson, said the company was proud to support Sliema Wanderers and Maltese sport through the new partnership.

“We are delighted to enter into this agreement with Sliema Wanderers,” Hartvig said.

“Betsson has been part of the Maltese community for the past 20 years, and supporting Maltese sport has always been one of our key objectives.

“We hope this long-term partnership will benefit both parties and help Sliema Wanderers move closer to competing at a higher level in Europe.”

With Teuma now officially part of the squad, Sliema Wanderers have underlined their determination to re-establish themselves among the leading contenders in Maltese football.
