San Diego FC complete signing of Tunisia international winger Elias Achouri from FC Copenhagen
San Diego FC have reached an agreement to sign Tunisia international winger Elias Achouri from FC Copenhagen, bringing an end to the 27-year-old’s three-year spell with the Danish giants.
Achouri joined FC Copenhagen from Viborg FF in the summer of 2023 and went on to make 117 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals and registering 28 assists across all competitions.
During his time in the Danish capital, the winger played a key role in the club’s success, featuring in the UEFA Champions League and helping Copenhagen win both the Danish Superliga and the Danish Cup.
The Tunisian international also made history during the 2023/24 season, setting a new FC Copenhagen club record with 14 assists, the highest tally in the Superliga that campaign.
Reflecting on his departure, Achouri expressed his gratitude for his time at the club and the memories he created with the supporters.
“I am very grateful for the time I have had in Copenhagen. There have been so many magical moments along the way. I will always remember the feeling of walking onto the pitch in Parken against Bayern Munich, Galatasaray and Napoli with the best fans in the world behind me. Those memories will always be with me.”
“Thank you to the fans, my teammates, coaches, and everyone at the club for a fantastic time in Copenhagen. After four years in Denmark, I now dream of trying my hand in a new league and a new country. I am very happy that I have reached an agreement with the club that will allow me to pursue my dream. But it is not easy to leave FC Copenhagen.”
Achouri leaves Copenhagen as one of the club’s most creative players in recent years, earning a reputation as an assist specialist and producing several memorable moments on the European stage.
One of his standout performances came in the UEFA Champions League against Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica, where he scored just seconds after coming off the bench to put Copenhagen 2-1 ahead with his first touch of the match.
The winger will now begin a new chapter in Major League Soccer with San Diego FC, where he is set to be introduced to supporters at Snapdragon Stadium before the club’s match against FC Dallas on Saturday.
