Sunderland wrapped up their pre-season tour of the United States with a narrow 1-0 victory over Wrexham at Philadelphia’s Subaru Park, thanks to a composed finish from Nordi Mukiele.

The decisive moment arrived in the 34th minute when Mukiele linked up brilliantly with Trai Hume and Brian Brobbey before squeezing his shot home from a tight angle to give the Black Cats the lead.

Head coach Regis Le Bris restored Robin Roefs, Habib Diarra, and Noah Sadiki to the starting XI after the trio returned from extended breaks following their recent World Cup commitments.

Sunderland controlled much of the contest, enjoying the majority of possession and creating the better opportunities. Habib Diarra and Romaine Mundle both looked dangerous in the opening stages as the Premier League newcomers dictated the tempo.

Wrexham believed they had found a leveller through Nathan Broadhead, but the effort was correctly ruled out for offside. After the interval, Nilson Angulo rattled the crossbar, while Trai Hume also came close to extending Sunderland’s advantage. However, Mukiele’s well-taken first-half strike proved to be the difference.

The Black Cats now turn their attention to their final pre-season fixture, where they will take on RC Lens on Saturday, August 8, as preparations continue ahead of the new campaign.
