Kai Havertz believes he is in excellent shape ahead of the new season after finding the net in Arsenal’s convincing 4-1 pre-season victory over Girona.

The Germany international gave the Gunners an early lead following the club’s week-long training camp in Spain. Christos Tzolis, highly rated youngster Max Dowman, and Gabriel Jesus also got on the scoresheet as Mikel Arteta’s side continued their encouraging preparations for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Although Arsenal are still in the early stages of pre-season, Havertz is confident his fitness is already where it needs to be and believes the squad is building strong chemistry ahead of the new campaign.

“You saw already the connections we had on the pitch. It was a good test for us against a good team and I think we played strong. We need to continue like that now,” Havertz told the club’s media channels.

The 26-year-old also stressed the importance of match action in regaining full sharpness after the summer break.

“Playing games is the best way to get fit and especially for the players. I think they’ve had a long break now. I think it’s important to play a couple of games. I think we’re already looking forward to the next one.”

Havertz added that he returned from his holiday in good condition and is eager to carry his form into the new season.

“My fitness levels are quite good, to be fair. I feel like I had three weeks off. I think I didn’t lose too much and I feel good, feel strong and I’m ready to go.”
