Second-Half Meltdown Sees Liverpool Lose to Leeds in Pre-Season

Liverpool’s pre-season campaign in the United States ended on a disappointing note as the Premier League champions surrendered a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 against Leeds United at Chicago’s Soldier Field.
The Reds made an excellent start and took the lead inside seven minutes through Luke Chambers, who capped off an encouraging opening spell. New signing Florian Wirtz then doubled Liverpool’s advantage five minutes before half-time, putting Arne Slot’s side firmly in control heading into the interval.
Leeds emerged with renewed energy after the break and sparked an impressive comeback. Brenden Aaronson cut the deficit in the 60th minute before Dominic Calvert-Lewin restored parity just moments later, shifting the momentum in the visitors’ favour.
The turnaround was completed when Sean Longstaff saw his effort take a deflection on its way into the net, leaving Liverpool with a mountain to climb. Calvert-Lewin then wrapped up the victory by powering home a header five minutes from full-time to complete his brace.
Liverpool introduced several changes during the second half, with Ryan Gravenberch making his first appearance of pre-season after returning to action. Despite creating a handful of opportunities late on, the Reds were unable to find a response as Leeds United secured an impressive victory to bring Liverpool’s US tour to a disappointing conclusion.
