Williams secure Alex Albon’s future with new deal until 2027

Alex Albon extends Williams stay with new contract through 2027
Alex Albon will remain with Williams for the 2027 Formula 1 season after agreeing to a contract extension, the team confirmed on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old Thai driver joined the former world champions in 2022 following his spell with Red Bull Racing and recently celebrated his 100th Grand Prix start for Williams at the Hungarian Grand Prix before the summer break.
Williams currently sit ninth in the Formula 1 constructors’ standings, having collected 11 points from the opening 11 races of the season. The championship resumes this weekend with the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort following the August break.
Albon said the team’s difficult campaign has only strengthened his determination to help Williams move forward.
“One tough year doesn’t tell the full picture, and it only gives me more motivation to keep building and pushing together with the factory and our fans to achieve great things,” Albon said in a statement.
He added:
“Our story is not over yet, so my full focus now is on doing whatever it takes to get us back up the grid.”
Albon’s new deal provides stability for Williams as the team continues its long-term rebuilding project and prepares for the next phase of Formula 1 competition.
However, his teammate Carlos Sainz remains uncertain about his future with the team.
Sainz has scored six of Williams’ 11 points so far this season after joining from Ferrari on a multi-year contract in 2025.
The Spaniard is reportedly understood to have a performance-related clause in his agreement that could allow him to leave after two seasons if a suitable opportunity becomes available elsewhere.
With Albon now committed to Williams beyond the current campaign, attention will increasingly turn to Sainz’s future and whether the team will retain its current driver pairing for the 2027 season.
