SK Victoria Wanderers come from behind to defeat Xagħra United

SK Victoria Wanderers came from a goal down to defeat ten-man Xagħra United 2-1 in their opening match of the GFA BOV Gozo Football League First Division at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday.
Xagħra made the perfect start when Ibrahim Salis opened the scoring after just eight minutes, giving his side an early advantage which they managed to preserve for the remainder of the first half.
Victoria Wanderers, however, responded strongly after the interval and restored parity six minutes into the second half through Mustapha Lawal Amodu.
The match took a decisive turn in the 64th minute when Xagħra were reduced to ten men following the dismissal of Joao Felipe Affonso Rodriques.
Victoria Wanderers immediately took advantage of their numerical superiority, completing the turnaround just a minute later.
Kender Javier Hernandez Villahermosa struck in the 65th minute to put the Wanderers 2-1 ahead and they held on to secure all three points from their opening fixture.
The victory means SK Victoria Wanderers join Għajnsielem and Xewkija Tigers on three points following the opening weekend. Għajnsielem had defeated Sannat Lions 3-0, while Xewkija edged nine-man Qala Saints 1-0.
Kercem Ajax have yet to play their first match, while Xagħra, Qala and Sannat remain without a point.
