Raptors’ Kawhi Leonard out for at least a week due to knee swelling

Kawhi Leonard will miss at least one week of the NBA season due to swelling in his left knee, the Toronto Raptors announced on Tuesday.
Leonard featured in the Raptors’ first two victories of the 2026-27 campaign but missed Sunday’s defeat to Minnesota because of the issue.
“Forward Kawhi Leonard will undergo a treatment and rehabilitation program to address swelling in his left knee,” the team said in a statement.
“Medical imaging revealed no acute injury, and Leonard will be reevaluated in one week.”
The 35-year-old has previously dealt with significant right knee injuries during the 2021 and 2023 NBA playoffs, raising concerns whenever he experiences further knee problems.
The Raptors acquired Leonard, who led Toronto to its historic 2019 NBA championship, in an offseason trade with the Los Angeles Clippers. The deal was finalised after a resolution was reached in the Clippers’ salary-cap circumvention scandal.
Last month, Leonard signed a two-year contract extension worth $115 million with Toronto.
The forward expressed his frustration at the setback in a social media post, while also reaffirming his determination to return to action.
“It’s always frustrating missing time,” Leonard wrote. “I came back to compete with this team and I’m focused on getting back to 100.
“Toronto, I’ve appreciated the love since I’ve been back. Returning soon.”
