Alpine confirm Franco Colapinto for 2027 as team retains unchanged driver lineup

Franco Colapinto will remain with Alpine for the 2027 Formula 1 season, with the Renault-owned team confirming that the Argentine will continue alongside French teammate Pierre Gasly in an unchanged driver lineup.

Colapinto, 23, joined Alpine as a reserve driver last season before being promoted to a race seat after Jack Doohan was dropped following the opening six rounds of the campaign.

The Argentine has impressed during his time with the team this season, scoring points in six of the first 12 rounds and contributing 19 of Alpine’s 63 points as the team sits fifth in the constructors’ standings.

Meanwhile, Gasly is already under contract with Alpine through the end of the 2028 season, ensuring continuity for the team as it looks to build for the future.

Briatore Praises Colapinto’s Development

Alpine team boss Flavio Briatore praised Colapinto’s progress and maturity throughout the season, insisting that the young driver has demonstrated he belongs in Formula 1.

“We have seen Franco truly grow and mature into a great driver this year,” Briatore said in a team statement.

He highlighted Colapinto’s performances in Miami and Montreal as particularly convincing evidence of his potential.

“His results in Miami and Montreal especially confirmed what I already knew: Franco belongs in Formula 1 and he belongs at this team.”

Colapinto’s best result of the season so far came at the Canadian Grand Prix, where he finished sixth. The driver has also said he feels increasingly comfortable within the Alpine setup as the team continues to make progress.

Colapinto Welcomes Alpine’s Long-Term Commitment

Colapinto expressed his gratitude for the team’s confidence in him and said Alpine’s ambitions are firmly focused on competing for victories in the future.

“Our long-term goals are obvious – to compete and win – and I am grateful to the team, Flavio and managing director Steve Nielsen, for the trust placed in me to be one of its drivers going into the future,” Colapinto said.

The confirmation means Alpine will head into the 2027 F1 season with the same driver pairing, giving the team an opportunity to continue developing its project without making changes to its race lineup.

Attention now turns to the next round of the championship, with the Italian Grand Prix at Monza scheduled for September 6.
