Felix Auger-Aliassime has ended his long-standing partnership with coach Frederic Fontang following the Canadian’s five-set quarter-final loss to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon.

The decision brings to a close a decade-long collaboration that began when Fontang took over as Auger-Aliassime’s coach at the age of 16. During their time together, the Canadian claimed nine ATP singles titles and rose to a career-high ranking of world No. 4.

Auger-Aliassime announced the split in an Instagram post on Friday, paying tribute to the coach who guided him through both the highs and lows of his career.

“After nearly ten years of working together, it has recently been decided that Wimbledon would be my last tournament with Frederic by my side as my coach,” Auger-Aliassime wrote.

“Since I was 16 years old, he has guided my development and helped me experience incredible moments through this sport. He has also been by my side during the toughest moments of my career.

“In those difficult times, I always found in him the calm, composure and wisdom I needed to overcome those challenges. Looking back today, I can say that beyond being an outstanding coach, he has been a true mentor throughout my journey into adulthood.”

Fontang played a key role in Auger-Aliassime’s rise on the ATP Tour, overseeing the Canadian’s breakthrough into the world’s top five and helping him establish himself among the game’s leading players. Their partnership was one of the longest-standing player-coach relationships on the men’s tour.
