Bayern Confirm Saibari Out for Up to Four Months, Gnabry Ruled Out for Remainder of 2026

Bayern Munich have confirmed the extent of the injuries suffered by Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry, with both players expected to spend an extended period on the sidelines.
Saibari was forced off in the 29th minute of the Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund after colliding with goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. Gnabry was also unable to continue, leaving the pitch just two minutes later.
Following the 2-2 draw, Bayern announced that Saibari had suffered a tear to the syndesmosis ligament in his right ankle. The midfielder has already undergone successful surgery and is expected to be unavailable for up to four months.
Gnabry, meanwhile, sustained a muscle injury to the back of his left thigh, ruling him out for the remainder of 2026.
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has provided an update on the expected recovery periods for the two injured players, confirming that Ismael Saibari faces several months out of action.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Bayern’s UEFA Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid on Monday, Eberl revealed that Saibari is expected to miss between three and four months after suffering a syndesmosis ligament tear in his ankle.
“He was already sitting with us at lunch today. I was completely surprised and asked him whether it would be two or three weeks. He laughed a little and said: ‘Two and a half.’ That probably won’t be the case. We’re expecting him to be out for three to four months with the syndesmosis ligament tear,” Eberl said.
Gnabry’s recovery is expected to be considerably shorter. The Germany international is likely to remain unavailable until Christmas.
