Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich will be unavailable for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Arsenal following a death in his immediate family, the Bundesliga champions have confirmed.

The 31-year-old missed Bayern’s final training session ahead of the fixture, with assistant coach Aaron Danks initially attributing his absence to personal reasons on Tuesday.

Bayern subsequently announced on Wednesday that Kimmich would not travel with the squad for the match as he deals with the family bereavement.

In a statement posted on X, the German club asked for privacy and understanding during the difficult period.

“On behalf of the family, we ask that his privacy and grief be respected, and that further inquiries and reporting be refrained from,” Bayern said.

Kimmich’s absence represents another blow for Bayern Munich, who will also be without suspended winger Michael Olise for their Champions League group-stage meeting with Arsenal at the Allianz Arena.

Despite the setbacks, the German champions will head into the contest with confidence following their emphatic 6-1 Bundesliga victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday. They will also look to build on last week’s thrilling 3-3 draw away to Viking in European competition.
