Patrick Berg set for immediate Bodø/Glimt return just days after Norway’s World Cup exit

Just four days after helping Norway reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals, Patrick Berg is set to return straight to club duty as Bodø/Glimt prepare to face Fredrikstad in the Eliteserien on Friday.

The Norwegian midfielder played a pivotal role in his country’s memorable World Cup campaign, but has had little time to recover following Norway’s quarter-final defeat to England before shifting his attention back to the domestic season.

Berg arrived back in Norway on Monday evening after spending several weeks in the United States with the national team. Throughout the tournament, the Bodø/Glimt captain established himself as one of Norway’s standout performers, helping guide the team to the last eight before their impressive run was ended by England.

Despite the demanding schedule, the 27-year-old made it clear during the team’s homecoming celebrations in Oslo that his focus had already turned back to club football.

The reigning Champions League Round of 16 participants resume their league campaign on Friday, with Bodø/Glimt looking to strengthen their title challenge against Fredrikstad.

“My body feels really good,” Berg told NRK shortly after arriving back in Bodø on Tuesday evening.

The midfielder featured in every World Cup match, including fixtures against France, Brazil, and England, underlining his importance to the Norwegian side throughout the tournament.

Before departing for the World Cup, Berg had already completed a demanding first half of the season with Bodø/Glimt.

From January through mid-July, he has made 30 competitive appearances for both club and country.

The packed fixture schedule shows no signs of slowing down, with the Eliteserien, European qualifiers, and upcoming international fixtures all on the horizon.

Should Berg feature in every remaining match this year, he could finish the season having played around 66 matches across all competitions.

“From the very first moment with the national team, I’ve felt in good form and ready to play and contribute. Now I hope the adjustment to artificial turf and the time difference will happen quickly,” Berg said.

The Eliteserien resumed on 11-12 July after its mid-season break for the World Cup, having paused following Matchweek 12 in early June. The 2026 campaign, which began on 14 March, is scheduled to conclude on 6 December.

Heading into Friday’s fixture, Bodø/Glimt sit third in the table, just two points behind leaders Tromsø, while also holding two games in hand—a significant advantage as they continue their pursuit of another league title.
