Nottingham Forest Open Talks With Tottenham Over Lucas Bergvall Transfer

Nottingham Forest have entered discussions with Tottenham Hotspur over a potential move for midfielder Lucas Bergvall as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

The Sweden international has emerged as one of Forest’s priority midfield targets, with the club already making initial contact regarding a possible transfer.

Sources indicate Forest’s opening proposal was worth around £38 million for the 20-year-old. However, Tottenham are understood to value Bergvall much higher, with the north London club placing an asking price of approximately £50 million, leaving a significant gap between the two sides.

Despite the difference in valuation, negotiations are expected to continue, and Forest are likely to return with an improved offer. Even so, sources suggest the Premier League side are reluctant to meet Tottenham’s full £50 million asking price.

The negotiations also come against the backdrop of last summer’s unsuccessful pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White by Tottenham. Spurs believed they were on course to complete a £60 million move after triggering the midfielder’s release clause, but Forest halted the transfer and threatened legal action over alleged confidentiality breaches, bringing the proposed deal to an end.

Tottenham are prepared to consider offers for Lucas Bergvall, although the club will only sanction a sale if their valuation is met.

Despite the history between Tottenham and Nottingham Forest following the collapsed Morgan Gibbs-White transfer last summer, sources insist Spurs are approaching the current negotiations on a purely business basis and have no intention of revisiting past disputes.

The north London club believes its £50 million valuation accurately reflects Bergvall’s quality, age and long-term potential in today’s transfer market. Tottenham remain willing to negotiate, provided the right offer is made.

There have also been fresh suggestions that Spurs continue to admire Gibbs-White, adding another layer of intrigue to the ongoing discussions between the two clubs.

Bergvall is regarded as one of Tottenham’s brightest young prospects, and the club’s asking price reflects the confidence they have in his future development.

For Nottingham Forest, the Swedish midfielder has been identified as the ideal replacement for Elliot Anderson following his £116 million move to Manchester City. Talks between the clubs are expected to continue, with Forest likely to return with an improved bid worth more than £40 million, although it remains to be seen whether they will move close enough to Tottenham’s valuation to secure a deal.
