Bormla Subbuteo Club finish ninth in Champions Cup in Mallorca

Bormla Subbuteo Club produced an impressive performance at the 2026 Champions Cup in Mallorca, Spain, finishing ninth out of 32 participating teams after narrowly missing out on a place in the quarter-finals.
The Maltese representatives reached the last 16 of the prestigious international table football competition before suffering a dramatic elimination against Greek side Falcons following a golden goal.
Bormla held their opponents to a 1-1 draw, with the aggregate goals also level at 8-8. The encounter consequently went into a golden-goal decider, with the Greek team eventually prevailing to secure their place in the quarter-finals.
Despite the disappointment, Bormla recovered strongly in the classification matches, winning three consecutive encounters to secure ninth place overall.
The Maltese club had earlier enjoyed a successful group-stage campaign, finishing third in Group 1 following a series of competitive performances against some of Europe’s established table football clubs.
Bormla opened their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Barcelona of Spain before suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat against Italian side Casale.
They responded with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Europa FC TSC of Gibraltar and followed that result with another impressive 3-1 success against Belgian representatives Hennuyer.
A closely contested encounter against Lazio of Italy ended in a 2-2 draw, while Bormla subsequently lost 2-1 against Dutch side MVV Rijnmond.
These results were sufficient to secure third place in the group and qualification for the knockout stages.
Following their narrow elimination against Falcons, Bormla entered the classification competition for positions nine to 16.
They began with a 2-1 victory over Napoli Eagles of Italy before overcoming Belgian side Racing White Woluwe by the same scoreline in the playoff for positions nine to 12.
Bormla then completed their campaign in convincing fashion, defeating another Belgian club, Stembert, 3-0 in the ninth-place playoff.
The victory ensured that the Maltese representatives finished among the top ten teams in a competition featuring 32 clubs.
Bormla’s squad consisted of Charles Aquilina, Jean Carl Tabone, George Ebejer, Axel Donval, Ruben Santos Portugues and Josef Camilleri.
Roland Scicluna served as team manager, with Ana Fernandes forming part of the supporting staff.
The club’s performance represented another encouraging achievement for Maltese table football on the international stage, particularly considering the narrow circumstances of their elimination from the last 16.
Bormla’s participation was made possible through the support of BeActive – SportMalta under the International Participation Scheme.
The club also acknowledged the assistance of VisitMalta, Mykonos by Yiamas, Prima Holidays, Euroclub Hotel, Watson’s Pub, EJCS, Mamzinobet, Ektos tin Teixon and Xjenza Malta.
