Chetcuti Fourth in Trap Men’s Final at Taranto 2026

Gianluca Chetcuti finished fourth in the Trap Men’s Final at the XX Mediterranean Games in Taranto on Wednesday, 26 August.
Competing against seven other finalists, Chetcuti hit 17 of 20 targets before his elimination in fourth place. He was level with Italy’s Buccolieri at that stage, but the equal points between the two —decided on bib number — went the Italian’s way, leaving Chetcuti to finish fourth, one place short of the podium.

Gold went to Spain’s Andrés García García, who beat Greece’s Chatzitsakiroglou in a shoot-off after the pair tied on 28. Buccolieri took bronze with 21.
Malta’s William Chetcuti narrowly missed a place in the final, finishing just short of the cut in qualification.
The result caps a positive campaign for Gianluca Chetcuti, who came through qualification to reach the eight-man final and was the last non-medallist standing.

Elaine Genovese and Alex Degabriele opened their mixed doubles campaign with a convincing 7-5, 6-1 win over Kosovo’s Learta Muharremi and Florent Limani — a confident, controlled performance from start to finish. Tomorrow brings a tougher test when they face Spain’s Lucia Cortez Llorca and Alejo Sanchez Quilez, both seasoned professionals competing on the international ITF and Challenger circuits.
Thursday also sees Maltese sailors enter the fray, with Mia Busuttil and Katrina Micallef competing in the ILCA 6 Class and Matthew Flores and Benjamin Vassallo in the ILCA 7 Class. In badminton, Martina and Francesca Clark take on Greece’s Theodora Lamprianidou and Eleni Moutevelidou in the ladies doubles.
