Danish Porto Star Stretchered Off After Losing Consciousness in Nasty Collision

Victor Froholdt, the Danish international midfielder and reigning Player of the Season in Portugal, was stretchered off during Porto’s clash with Moreirense on Friday night after suffering a heavy head collision with Guilherme Liberato.
Froholdt was taken to hospital for further assessment and remains under observation.
Porto later confirmed that the 19-year-old was doing well and that medical tests had revealed no abnormalities. However, because he suffered a concussion in the incident, he will remain in hospital overnight before being discharged on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred in the 87th minute at Estadio do Dragao, when Froholdt and Liberato collided heavily, leaving the Porto midfielder unconscious on the pitch and prompting immediate concern among players and supporters.
Players from both sides quickly surrounded Froholdt to shield him from view while medical staff attended to the Dane. Liberato was visibly distressed and received support from teammates and opposition players before being shown a straight red card.
Froholdt was carried from the field on a stretcher but regained consciousness shortly afterwards, providing some relief to those at the stadium.
Following the match, Porto head coach Francesco Farioli offered an encouraging update on the midfielder’s condition.
“I received a message from the doctor. He is conscious and undergoing tests, but everything seems fine. Of course, we have to wait for the final information, but, thank God, it seems it was just a big scare for everyone,” the Italian coach said.
Farioli later provided further reassurance, confirming that Froholdt remained conscious while being kept in hospital for observation.
“He is in hospital for observation. He is conscious; they gave me good news. But of course the images and the contact were very impactful. Everyone was frightened, but he seems to be okay. He will be assessed, and we’ll see tomorrow,” he added.
