Play is set to get underway shortly in New York, with American stars Madison Keys and Amanda Anisimova among the first players in action.
14:30 CET – Welcome back to the US Open
Good afternoon and welcome back to our US Open live coverage. By the end of today’s schedule, we will know all of the matchups for the last 16.
The action is scheduled to begin at 17:00 CET, with last year’s finalist Amanda Anisimova opening proceedings on Louis Armstrong Stadium against Anastasia Potapova.
Over on Grandstand, Madison Keys, the reigning Australian Open champion, faces a fascinating test against Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng. Zheng has already impressed in New York after coming through qualifying and will be hoping to continue her resurgence against the American.
Meanwhile, Taylor Fritz takes to Arthur Ashe Stadium at 17:30 CET, where he will face Francisco Cerundolo. Fritz has looked extremely impressive during the opening rounds and will be determined to continue his pursuit of a maiden Grand Slam title on home soil.
Former US Open champion Coco Gauff is also in action on Arthur Ashe, taking on Cristina Bucsa after Fritz’s match.
The night session then brings one of the most intriguing encounters of the day, with rising stars and close friends Alexandra Eala and Iva Jovic going head-to-head.
The atmosphere should be particularly lively, with Eala expected to receive strong support from the large Filipino following that has backed her throughout the tournament. Jovic, meanwhile, will have the home crowd firmly behind her as she looks to continue her impressive run.
The final match on Arthur Ashe sees top seed Alexander Zverev return to action against Alejandro Tabilo. Zverev will be hoping for a more straightforward evening after being forced into late finishes in his opening matches, having twice found himself playing until around 2am.
On Louis Armstrong, Anisimova’s match is followed by a difficult test for fifth seed Flavio Cobolli, who faces Belgian qualifier Alexander Blockx. Cobolli will need to produce his best tennis if he is to avoid another upset and secure his place in the fourth round.
Two-time champion Naomi Osaka then takes on experienced Belgian Elise Mertens, before another meeting between two of the sport’s brightest young talents sees Jakub Mensik face Learner Tien.
Elsewhere, six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek faces Marie Bouzkova on Grandstand as she continues her bid for another deep run in New York.
Elena Rybakina will also be looking to put her recent injury concerns behind her when she takes on Yulia Starodubtseva. The Ukrainian will have confidence heading into the contest after stunning Rybakina in the second round of the French Open earlier this year.
Among the other players hoping to reach the fourth round are French Open champion Mirra Andreeva, Karen Khachanov, Zizou Bergs and Luciano Darderi.
With so many major names and emerging stars in action, the battle for the US Open last 16 promises to provide plenty of drama throughout the day.
