Eight players have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Malta Champion competition, organised by the Malta Blackball Pool Federation, following the completion of the last-16 stage yesterday.

The players through to the quarter-finals are Clayton Castaldi and his son Chaylon Castaldi, Nordai Desira, Ryan Pisani, Mevrick Zammit, Darren Schembri, Clint Azzopardi and defending champion Johan Attard.

Attard recorded a convincing 7-1 victory over Jed Abela, while Clayton Castaldi and Nordai Desira secured dominant 7-0 wins against Scott Muscat and Ephraim Calleja respectively.

Mevrick Zammit edged Philip Coleiro 7-6, while Clint Azzopardi defeated Kevin Schembri 7-5.

Chaylon Castaldi beat Miguel Mizzi 7-2, Darren Schembri defeated Jason Mangion 7-4 and Ryan Pisani won 7-3 against Steven Muscat.

The quarter-finals will be played tonight from 7pm:

• Clayton Castaldi vs Mevrick Zammit
• Chaylon Castaldi vs Darren Schembri
• Nordai Desira vs Clint Azzopardi
• Ryan Pisani vs Johan Attard

The semi-finals will be played on Monday, with the final scheduled for Tuesday.
