Ilyas Chouaref shines despite Sion defeat against Ajax
Maltese international attacker Ilyas Chouaref produced an impressive performance last night despite Sion suffering a 4-2 home defeat against Dutch giants Ajax in the UEFA Conference League.
Chouaref played a key role for the Swiss side and managed to get his name on the scoresheet in the 72nd minute, converting from the penalty spot to make it 2-2 at the time and give Sion renewed hope of securing a positive result.
However, Ajax’s quality eventually proved decisive as the Dutch side scored twice late on to secure a convincing 4-2 victory away from home.
The result leaves Ajax in a strong position ahead of the second leg, with the Dutch giants now firm favourites to progress to the next round of the UEFA Conference League.
Despite the defeat, Chouaref’s performance and his goal will provide encouragement for both the Maltese international and Sion as they look to overturn the two-goal deficit in the return leg.
