Liverpool officially unveiled French defender Jeremy Jacquet as the club’s newest signing on Wednesday, with the 20-year-old completing his move from Rennes.

The transfer had been agreed earlier this year, with Liverpool announcing the deal in February. The Premier League club paid an initial €64 million, with an additional €6 million in potential bonuses, to secure the highly rated centre-back as part of their plans to reinforce the defence ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Jacquet is expected to fill the void left by fellow French defender Ibrahima Konaté, who departed Anfield after his contract expired before joining Real Madrid on a free transfer.

A product of Rennes’ academy, Jacquet made his senior breakthrough during the 2023-24 season. Following an 18-month loan spell at Clermont, he returned to establish himself in Rennes’ first team, earning a reputation as one of France’s brightest young central defenders.

Jacquet made 21 appearances across all competitions last season before his campaign was cut short by a shoulder injury. The defender has not featured since February 7 after undergoing surgery.

Speaking for the first time as a Liverpool player, the 20-year-old described his move to Anfield as a dream come true.

“I’m very happy. When I see the facilities, I can picture myself there. I feel good here and I’m really excited to get started,” Jacquet said.

“For me, this is a dream come true. Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and joining a team of this stature means everything to me,” Jacquet said.

The French defender added that he is yet to decide which squad number he will wear as he prepares for his first season under Liverpool’s new head coach, Andoni Iraola.

Liverpool have also strengthened their squad with the signing of Spanish winger Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna, adding another new arrival ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
