Julian Alvarez reportedly turns down Arsenal after talks with Arteta

The transfer situation surrounding Alvarez has intensified with the summer window approaching its deadline. Reports earlier this week claimed that Atletico Madrid had given the forward until Sunday to decide whether he would remain at the club or seek a move elsewhere.
The 27-year-old has reportedly attracted frustration from Atletico Madrid supporters, with some fans booing him after reports emerged that he was interested in joining Barcelona.
However, with Atletico unwilling to sanction a move to the Catalan giants, Arsenal had emerged as the only club currently in a position to pursue a deal for the striker.
Despite the Gunners’ interest, transfer journalist David Ornstein reported that Alvarez has shown little desire to move to North London.
Alvarez Turns Down Arsenal Approach
According to Ornstein, Alvarez has spoken directly with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and indicated that he does not currently want to join the Premier League club.
“At the time of reporting, it’s a low chance that he will come to Arsenal, because he’s had his heart set on Barcelona,” Ornstein said on TNT Sports.
Atletico have reportedly closed the door on a potential transfer to Barcelona, meaning Arsenal could have been an alternative destination if Alvarez was willing to make the switch.
“Atletico have closed the door to Barcelona, that won’t happen. They would do a deal with Arsenal, Arsenal are prepared to reach an agreement club to club,” Ornstein explained.
However, the player’s preference remains a major obstacle.
Ornstein did leave the door open for a late change of heart, acknowledging that the situation could still develop before the transfer deadline.
Arsenal Face Transfer Decision
Ornstein believes Julian Alvarez would be Arsenal’s preferred target if they decide to strengthen their attacking options before the deadline.
Alvarez still has four years remaining on his Atletico Madrid contract and has made a significant impact since joining the Spanish club.
The Argentine has scored 49 goals in 107 appearances across all competitions, but uncertainty over his future has continued to dominate the headlines.
With Atletico refusing to entertain a Barcelona move and Alvarez reportedly rejecting Arsenal, the striker’s most likely outcome now appears to be staying in Madrid — a scenario that could do little to ease the growing tension between the player and Atletico supporters.
