Malta’s women’s national basketball team is set to begin its campaign at the FIBA Women’s European Championship for Small Countries, which takes place in Peja, Kosovo, from 23 to 28 June.

Head coach Charlie Bonnici has named a squad that blends valuable experience with exciting young talent, as several players prepare to make their senior international debuts. The team will be aiming to make a strong impression on the continental stage as they compete against some of Europe’s emerging basketball nations.

Bonnici will be assisted by Adrian Baldacchino, while Maria Agius will serve as Head of Delegation throughout the tournament. Experienced campaigner Josephine Diaby has been entrusted with the captaincy and will lead Malta both on and off the court during the week-long competition.

The championship features six participating nations divided into two groups of three teams. Following the group stage, teams will progress to classification matches that will determine the final standings.

Malta have been drawn in Group A alongside Albania and Georgia, while hosts Kosovo are joined by Armenia and Andorra in Group B.

The Maltese side will open their campaign against Albania on Tuesday before returning to action the following day against Georgia in what could prove to be a decisive encounter for qualification.
