Naomi Osaka Overcomes Alexandrova to Secure Bad Homburg Semi-Final Spot
Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka has booked her place in the semi-finals of the Wimbledon warm-up event in Bad Homburg, Germany, following a commanding victory over Ekaterina Alexandrova on Thursday.
The Japanese sixth seed produced a dominant performance, defeating the unseeded Russian 6-2, 6-2 in just 59 minutes to reach the final four of the grass-court tournament ahead of Wimbledon.
Osaka, currently ranked world No. 15, faced an early setback after losing her serve in the first set but quickly responded with an impressive comeback.
The former world No. 1 then won eight consecutive games, including a remarkable streak of 15 straight points, allowing her to take control of the match and build a 3-0 advantage in the second set.
Alexandrova, ranked 19th in the world, attempted to fight back by winning her next two service games, but Osaka remained in control and wrapped up the victory in under an hour.
Later on Thursday, fourth seed Karolína Muchová will face Danish player Clara Tauson, while American Emma Navarro takes on Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the remaining quarter-final matches.
