NHL Roundup: Kings spoil Reimer’s debut as flames extend winning run

NHL recap: Kings dominate Rangers as flames extend winning streak
The Los Angeles Kings spoiled rookie goaltender James Reimer’s NHL debut with a convincing victory, while the Calgary Flames continued their impressive run with another win during Monday’s three-game NHL slate.
Los Angeles Kings 6-3 New York Rangers
The Los Angeles Kings handed the New York Rangers a tough loss, chasing rookie goaltender James Reimer from the game after he surrendered three goals on just eight shots. The Kings wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, finding the back of the net with their first shot of the game.
Taylor Ward opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, while defenseman Drew Doughty finally got off the mark with his first goal of the campaign late in the opening period, helping Los Angeles establish a 3-1 lead.
Meanwhile, Artemi Panarin (7) continued his strong form, scoring against his former team. Panarin now has four goals in his last four games and leads the Kings with 11 points this season.
The Kings also received first goals of the season from Mikey Anderson (1) and Joel Edmundson (1), while Adam Fox (1) found the net for the Rangers.
Despite both teams recording 26 shots on goal, Los Angeles proved more clinical in front of the net to secure the victory.
- Kings record: 3-5-2 (W1)
- Rangers record: 7-6-1 (L3)
Calgary Flames 5-2 Toronto Maple Leafs
The Calgary Flames continued their winning ways with a 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs, extending their winning streak to four games.
Matvei Gridin (4) played a key role in Calgary’s fast start, scoring two of the Flames’ first three goals to give his team a commanding 3-0 advantage. Gridin remains red-hot, with all four of his goals this season coming over his last four games.
Toronto attempted to fight its way back into the contest, with Easton Cowan (6) and William Nylander (9) cutting the deficit to just one goal. However, the Maple Leafs’ comeback hopes were quickly dashed as Joel Farabee (3) and Martin Pospisil (2) each scored into an empty net to seal Calgary’s fourth consecutive win and fifth victory of the season.
Nylander continued his productive stretch despite the loss. Like Gridin, he has scored four goals over his last four games and has recorded six points during that span.
- Flames record: 5-6-0
- Maple Leafs record: 7-5-2
