It was a highly positive day for Malta’s teams competing in the European Team Shield Championship, which is being held in Malta for the first time, as both the men’s and women’s teams won their quarter-final matches.

The men’s team, comprising Ruud Critien, Andrew Borg, Oliver Davis and JJ Micallef Verlest, defeated Romania 2-1. Micallef Verlest, Critien and Davis secured the victories that propelled Malta into the semi-finals. The Maltese team will now face Latvia today for a place in the final.

Meanwhile, the women’s team, made up of Eliana Buhagiar, Laya Cristina, Serena Falzon Sant Manduca and Filipps Schulze Doering, produced a dominant performance to beat Ukraine 3-0. They will take on San Marino in their semi-final today.

This is the first time the European Team Shield Championship has been staged in Malta. The tournament provides emerging European golfing nations with the opportunity to compete at international level while continuing to promote the development of the sport. The event is being organised in collaboration with Sport Malta and the Malta Golf Association.
