Philip Coleiro and Gary Carr Face Off in Blackball Final
Philip Coleiro and Gary Carr will contest the final of the fifth qualifying tournament for the WPA World Blackball Championship tonight, in what promises to be an exciting encounter.
To reach the final, Carr defeated Michel Curmi 6-2 and Jeffrey Farrugia 7-0 before overcoming Glenn Axiaq 8-2 in the quarter-finals. In yesterday’s semi-final, he had to work hard to overcome Owen Amato 9-7.
Coleiro, meanwhile, defeated Gordon Said 6-2 and Wayne Pace 7-6 before beating Miguel Mizzi 8-6 in the quarter-finals. He then secured his place in the final with a 9-3 victory over Ivan Rizzo in yesterday’s semi-final.
The final will be played tonight at the Juventus Club Vero Amore in Birkirkara, starting at 7.30pm. The winner will earn a place in the Malta men’s national team that will compete at the WPA Blackball World Championship, taking place in England from 20 to 28 October.
