Real Madrid pushing to complete Rodri signing from Manchester City

Real Madrid confident of completing move for Manchester City star Rodri
Real Madrid are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Manchester City midfielder Rodri, with the Spanish giants increasingly confident of securing the World Cup winner’s signature before the close of the transfer window.
The reigning La Liga champions have been searching for a long-term successor to midfield legends Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić, and Rodri has emerged as one of their top transfer targets over the past year.
According to The Athletic, Real Madrid are actively working behind the scenes to complete a deal for the 30-year-old, although formal negotiations with Manchester City have yet to begin.
The report adds that City are keen to keep the Spanish international at the club. However, with Rodri entering the final year of his current contract, this summer could represent their last opportunity to receive a significant transfer fee rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year.
Despite the lack of official talks, Real Madrid remain optimistic that an agreement can be reached and are reportedly planning for Rodri to be part of their squad for the 2026/27 season.
Should the transfer go through, the 2026 FIFA World Cup winner would become the latest high-profile departure from Manchester City following the exits of Pep Guardiola, John Stones, and Bernardo Silva, all of whom have already left the club during the current transfer window.
