Barcelona join Real Madrid in race to sign Rodri from Manchester City

Spanish midfielder Rodri has emerged as one of the biggest names in this summer’s transfer window, with both Real Madrid and Barcelona now battling for the signature of the Manchester City star.

Interest from Real Madrid first surfaced over a month ago, but the Spanish giants are yet to finalise a move for the 30-year-old. That delay has opened the door for Barcelona, who are now actively trying to hijack the deal.

According to talkSPORT journalists Alex Crook and Ben Jacobs, Barcelona have entered negotiations as they look to lure the Ballon d’Or winner to Camp Nou instead of the Santiago Bernabeu.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also reported on Thursday that the final decision rests entirely with Rodri.

“The decision will be completely up to Rodri, as Real Madrid and Barcelona are both ready to pay a similar transfer fee to Manchester City.

“Rodri has been in negotiations with Real Madrid for weeks as their priority, but Barcelona have positioned themselves as well while the Madrid deal isn’t done yet.”

Despite the growing speculation, Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca insists he remains relaxed about the situation.

“Around big players there are always speculation. I’m not worried about that, it’s normal,” Maresca said.

“They won the World Cup and he was one of the best players. Every manager wants to have Rodri, but now he needs to rest and recover after surgery, and then he will be back here with us.”

Rodri has previously spoken positively about Real Madrid, but with Barcelona now firmly in the race, the Spain international faces a major decision before the new season gets underway.
