Sliema Nexawin and Sirens Build Fitness strengthened their BOV Summer League Premier Division campaigns with convincing victories during Wednesday’s Match Day 9 action at the National Pool Complex.

Sliema produced an outstanding attacking display to cruise to a comprehensive 27-8 victory over Valletta Peak Insurance Brokers, while Sirens claimed an impressive 18-13 win over San Giljan MAA Daikin in the day’s headline encounter.

Sliema were in complete control from the outset against Valletta, opening up a 5-2 lead after the first quarter before extending their advantage to 13-4 by half-time. The Blues never eased off after the break, taking the third session 6-2 before wrapping up an emphatic 27-8 victory with another dominant final quarter.

Elijah Schembri led Sliema’s scoring with six goals, Francesco Di Fulvio added five, while Jayden Cutajar netted four. Benji Cachia chipped in with a hat-trick as the Blues proved far too strong for Valletta.

Valletta’s goals came through Jacob Sciberras, Pablo Chmyr and Matthew Chircop, who all scored twice, while Jake Colombo and Max Zammit added one apiece.

The evening’s marquee fixture saw Sirens produce one of their strongest performances of the season to overcome San Giljan 18-13.

Sirens laid the foundations for victory with an excellent first half, opening a 6-3 lead after the opening quarter before extending their advantage to 11-6 at the interval. Although San Giljan responded after the restart, reducing the deficit to four goals heading into the final period, Sirens maintained their composure to close out an important victory.

Daniel Angyal starred for the winners with six goals, while Matthew Mifsud added three. Matthew Sciberras and Zach Mizzi each scored twice in a balanced attacking performance.

Jerko Marinic-Kragic finished as San Giljan’s leading scorer with five goals, while Jake Muscat Melito, Matthew Zammit and Nikolai Zammit each found the net twice.
