Reigning champions Floriana will begin the defence of their 2026/27 Malta Premier League title with a clash against newly-promoted Birżebbuġa St Peter’s, following the release of the league fixtures on Wednesday.

While the Greens open against one of the league’s newcomers, their schedule quickly intensifies with a demanding run of fixtures. Floriana will take on rivals Sliema Wanderers on Matchday 2 before facing Ħamrun Spartans, Gżira United, and last season’s runners-up Marsaxlokk in the opening weeks of the campaign.

The new season is set to kick off over the weekend of 15 August, with the league retaining the same competition format used over the past two seasons.

Last season’s finalists Marsaxlokk begin their campaign against Balzan, before testing themselves against Hibernians, Valletta, and Mosta.

Meanwhile, Ħamrun Spartans open against Mosta before renewing their rivalry with Birkirkara on Matchday 2. They then face Floriana and Żabbar St Patrick in what promises to be a competitive opening month.

Valletta have been handed a relatively favourable start, with matches against Żabbar St Patrick and Gżira United, before tougher encounters against Marsaxlokk, Hibernians, and Balzan.

The Citizens’ fixture list also includes two major derbies in consecutive weeks, with a meeting against Ħamrun Spartans scheduled for 24–25 October, followed by a clash with Floriana on 31 October–1 November.

League organisers also confirmed that no Malta Premier League matches in August will be played at the National Stadium, which will be unavailable during that period. Additionally, marquee fixtures will not be scheduled for midweek.

The league also announced a new title sponsor, with VBET taking over naming rights for the upcoming campaign. The competition will now be known as the VBET Malta Premier, replacing YoHealth, which sponsored the league during the 2025/26 season.

League organisers welcomed the new partnership, describing it as a significant step in strengthening the competition ahead of the new season.
