Sabalenka remains “always confident” despite struggles as she chases third straight US Open title

The world No. 1 from Belarus heads to New York without a tournament victory since her triumph at the Miami Open in March, but she remains confident that she can rediscover her best form on the biggest stage.
Sabalenka has enjoyed remarkable success at Flushing Meadows, winning the title in both 2024 and 2025. Now, the four-time Grand Slam champion is aiming to make history by completing a third straight US Open triumph.
Asked about her mindset ahead of the tournament, the 28-year-old was emphatic.
“Always confident,” Sabalenka told reporters on Friday.
Sabalenka Looking to Turn the Page
The season began strongly for Sabalenka, who won in Brisbane before reaching the Australian Open final, where she was beaten in three sets by Elena Rybakina.
She responded impressively by winning titles at Indian Wells and the Miami Open, completing the prestigious ‘Sunshine Double’.
However, her results have dipped since then. Sabalenka reached the quarter-finals of the French Open before suffering a fourth-round defeat at Wimbledon against Naomi Osaka.
Her difficult stretch continued during the North American hard-court swing, with fourth-round exits at both the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open earlier this month.
Those results have left Sabalenka with plenty to prove as she returns to the scene of her greatest recent successes.
Still, the Belarusian believes difficult periods can ultimately make her a stronger player.
“That’s the beauty of sport,” she said. “Throw tough challenges at me, I will come back only stronger.”
Sabalenka acknowledged that the recent period has been difficult but insisted she is focused on moving forward rather than dwelling on her results.
The world No. 1 has also been working extensively on the mental side of her game in an effort to reset and regain her confidence.
Sabalenka Chasing a Place in History
Victory in New York would put Sabalenka in an elite group of players. She could become only the third woman in the Open Era to win three consecutive US Open titles, joining legends Chris Evert and Serena Williams.
Sabalenka admitted that matching such iconic champions would carry enormous significance.
“So if I would be able to put my name kind of, like, slightly next to them, that means a lot to me.”
With history within reach, Sabalenka will now look to put her recent struggles behind her and rediscover the form that has made her so dominant at the US Open over the past two years.
