Man City confirm blockbuster Enzo Fernandez move from Chelsea

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea in a joint British-record transfer reportedly worth £125 million.
The 25-year-old had been pushing for a move away from Stamford Bridge since the beginning of 2026, with his future becoming increasingly uncertain during the year.
Fernandez had initially attracted interest from Real Madrid, but the Spanish giants ultimately ruled out a move for the midfielder. His desire to explore a transfer had also led to a two-match suspension under former Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior
With Real Madrid no longer an option, Manchester City emerged as the midfielder’s preferred destination. Former manager Enzo Maresca was also keen on bringing Fernandez to the club.
The two clubs eventually reached an agreement on transfer deadline day, with the deal reportedly matching the British transfer record at £125 million.
Fernandez has signed a five-year contract with City, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031.
Speaking after completing his move, Fernandez expressed his excitement at joining one of England’s leading clubs.
“Manchester City are the most successful club in England in recent times,“ Fernandez said.
“Every player wants to be part of a club like this because everyone knows how well-run City are.
The midfielder also highlighted the quality within City’s squad and his desire to learn from his new teammates.
Fernandez added that his commitment to improving his game will remain unchanged following his move to Manchester.
The new City signing also thanked those involved in completing the transfer and vowed to repay the club’s faith in him.
With the 2026/27 English Premier League season already underway, Fernandez now faces the challenge of adapting quickly to his new surroundings and helping Manchester City compete for major trophies.
